Jean-Marc AYRAULT, 59, has been President of Nantes Métropole since 2001. He has been Mayor of Nantes for 20 years. Jean-Marc Ayrault places quality of life and access for all citizens to quality services at the core of his local actions. Jean-Marc Ayrault has also had responsibilities at national level as a Member of the French Parliament since 1986 and Leader of the Socialist Group in the National Assembly since 1997. He has demonstrated his commitment to international public life as a member of EUROCITIES since 1997, as a member of the World Council of the UCLG (United Cities and Local Governments) and as Vice-President of the Franco-German friendship group within the National Assembly. A graduate of the University of Nantes, Jean-Marc Ayrault speaks German fluently and taught the language for many years at secondary school level.
