William Becker
Executive Director of the US Presidential Climate Action Project
William Becker, 62, is Executive Director of the Presidential Climate Action Project at the University of Colorado. He led a group of U.S. experts that created a plan for President Barack Obama and the current U.S. Congress to take bold action on climate change early in 2009. Becker now is leading a project to develop a compelling vision of life in a post-carbon society. Prior to this assignment, he served as the Central Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Energy. During 15 years at DOE, he was the agency’s principal expert on sustainable community development. In addition to his work on climate policy in recent years, he advised the Chinese on the “greening” of the Olympic Village for the 2008 games, helped the government of Thailand design homes for victims of the tsunami and worked with the people of New Orleans in “sustainable recovery” after Hurricane Katrina.
