Prof. Dr. Tobias Hartmann
Director of the Institute for Neurodegeneration and Neurobiology at the Saarland University and Co-Director of the Deutsches Institut für Demenzprävention
Hartmann (46) is Professor for Neurobiology at the Saarland University in Germany.
He studied biology at the universities of Muenster and Heidelberg. Following his PhD, he established 1999 a research group at the Center for Molecular Biology Heidelberg (ZMBH). He heads the Institute for Neurodegeneration and Neurobiology at the Saarland University and is codirector of the Deutsches Institut für Demenzprävention. Focus of his work is neurodegeneration, especially therapy and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. Past works covered areas like cholesterol lowering statins and omega-3 fatty acids as experimental interventions in Alzheimer’s disease treatment and prevention and deciphering the molecular pathways which lead to Alzheimer’s. He is the coordinator of several research networks, including two EU projects and received several prices including the Alois Alzheimer award 2006.
