Prof. Samuele Furfari
Advisor to the European Commission
After studying chemical engineering in Brussels Free University Samuele Furfari worked in this University as Assistant professor and researcher where he gets its PhD in 1982 on coal liquefaction. He joined the European Commission in 1982 where he has spent its entire carrier on energy matters. Back in 1994 he initiated and pushed the concept of local and regional energy agencies inviting local authorities to become actors of sustainable development that emerged now in the Convenant of Mayors. He developed energy efficiency and renewable energy policies. He has therefore been involved in an early stage in the energy-climate package. He is presently contributing to the coordination of various energy policies. Samuele Furfari is teaching “geopolitics’ of energy” at the Brussels Free University. He is regularly invited to speak in conferences and in the medias.
