To Stimulate and Sustain Economic Growth
Govern and promote Europe’s attractiveness as a whole
With globalization, European policy makers can no longer close their eyes on the new strong competition brought by globalization, with emerging economies such as China, India, many countries in South America or Middle-East challenging Europe as the first destination for Investments, Technologies and Talents. Moreover, the current international financial crisis illustrated by a high financial investment volatility and a credit crunch has enhanced the key role of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for economic sustainability.
Since launching the new Lisbon Agenda in 2005, Europe’s attractiveness, spurred on by Europe+, has been put on the European Union agenda. However with globalization gaining ground, Foreign Direct Investment and, by the same token, attractiveness of Technologies and Talents, have become a common priority. Today these are critical criteria for economic vitality and competitiveness; they contribute to the creation of national wealth, in particular through financing for research and innovation, employment and sustainable development.
The response from La Baule Conferences
Today Europe’s 27 national Investment Promotion Agencies gathered in the Public Advocacy Group (PAG) created by Europe+, would like to emphasize the current situation to which European attractiveness key players are confronted every day and propose strategic recommendations.
Every year, La Baule Conferences welcome the PAG annual meeting and organize a debate with European policy makers and investors to exchange views and experiences. PAG members want to make European attractiveness policies and initiatives more efficient: Europe, as a whole, will then be definitely more attractive.
