Auto industry is one of the leading industries of Chengdu which has reached a considerable scale after over one decade of steady growth.

The city of Chengdu currently hosts 155 auto companies (16 whole-vehicle manufacturing and vehicle-reassembly companies and 139 parts manufacturers) employing a total of more than 39 000 people.

The auto industry of Chengdu realized 19.57 billion yuan in annual revenue 2007, increasing by 15.68% over the previous year; 6.374 billion yuan in added-value, increasing by 19.56% year on year and accounting for over 36% of added value of the whole machinery-manufacturing industry of Chengdu; 3.164 billion yuan in tax, rising by 64.11％; and 1.826 billion yuan in net profits. The local industry produced 70 000 complete vehicles in 2007.
